Caldera sponsors Samba client library development
Caldera has contracted with Richard Sharpe of the Samba team to create a client library that will make Linux and Microsoft integration easier for developers. The Caldera-funded project includes the development of library source code, associated reorganization and reuse of Samba code and documentation of the library API.
Red Hat Linux Beta for the Itanium
Red Hat has announced the availability of the Beta version of Red Hat Linux for Itanium-based systems. This is the first publicly available beta from Red Hat for the Itanium architecture and is available for public download at Red Hat's ftp site.
NEC exec disses Linux

Eazel's Nautilus for Solaris shell
A joint development programme was announced, under which the two companies will ensure Nautilus works with Solaris, supports a broad range of different languages and contains tools to help users with disabilities. Eazel's part of the agreement is to commit itself to using Sun's StarOffice as the default document viewing tool in Nautilus.
