SuSE keen to get its Linux in handhelds
"Being a stable, flexible, and affordable operating system, Linux has without any doubt all chances to establish itself as a standard in this new market segment," said SuSE Chief Technical Officer Dirk Hohndel in a statement.
User-mode Linux 0.37-2.4.0 available
User-Mode Linux gives you a virtual machine that may have more hardware and software virtual resources than your actual, physical computer. You can assign your virtual machine only the hardware access you want it to have. With properly limited access, nothing you do on the virtual machine can
change or damage your real computer, or its software.
LinuxUsersGroups.org launches LUGs resource project
LinuxUsersGroups.org announced today the
launch of the new Not-For-Profit website and home for the LUGs Resource Project,

And oh, btw..2.4.0 is out
"In a move unanimously hailed by the trade press and industry analysts as
being a sure sign of incipient braindamage, Linus Torvalds (also known as
the "father of Linux" or, more commonly, as "mush-for-brains") decided
that enough is enough, and that things don't get better from having the
same people test it over and over again. In short, 2.4.0 is out there."

The device -- which looks like a notebook screen with a frame -- hooks up directly to the Internet and is used to search Web content or run applications, similar to a standard PC. Like the Crusoe-based Internet terminal released by Gateway and AOL in November, the Flora will contain a version of Linux.
SuSE Linux goes handheld
"The source says that SuSE will use handheld computing as a springboard to reach other areas where software is embedded into hardware and used to power myriad devices. The source also says that SuSE is likely to look for help in getting into handheld computing."
Linux gaining with mission-critical systems
Evidence suggests that Linux is finding a niche -- and quite possibly a large one. A poll of 2,092 IT professionals by Survey.com reveals that more than 68 percent of companies have or intend to deploy at least one Linux system. And according to IDC, Linux was second in server operating environment by shipments last year with 24 percent of the market.
Long-delayed Linux kernel upgrade slips again
Two months ago, Linux creator Linus Torvalds thought he would finally be ready to release a long-delayed upgrade of the open-source operating system's kernel by the end of December. But on New Year's Eve, Torvalds abandoned his latest target date, posting a note on the Internet saying that the Linux 2.4 kernel is still not finished.
