Caldera's IPO set at $7-9
An initial public offering by Caldera Systems Inc., which develops software based on the Linux operating system, was set at 5 million common shares that may sell for $7-9 apiece, the company said on Friday.
SGI and SuSE to bring high-availability to Linux
At the CeBIT 2000 conference, the world's largest information technology exhibition, SGI and SuSE Linux AG announced the initiation of a joint engineering project to bring IRIS FailSafe, SGI's high-availability clustering software, to the Linux operating system. The two companies announced their plans to develop a version of IRIS FailSafe for high-availability applications in Linux environments.

Epoc and Windows CE are not the only operating systems for wireless handhelds. The Office Linux rumour mill
The notion that Microsoft might develop a port of Office for Linux has been rumbling around for several years, but the rumours have been picking up pace recently. At CeBIT this week, LinuxCare executive Arthur Tyde told reporters that he had heard that 34 developers were working on the project, which has given rise to a fresh round of speculation.

While not a Linux-specific show, CEBIT is one of the best events to announce new products. Also, with Linux on the fringe and going for the mainstream, it is an excellent opportunity for Linux vendors to get an audience with the rest of the computing crowd. Which provides an excellent opportunity for me to see what the Linux community is doing to pitch to that crowd.
SCO welcomes Linux competition
The Santa Cruz Operation Inc.'s (SCO) UnixWare 7 is the operating system squeezed in the middle between Microsoft Corp.'s Windows 2000 and Linux on the low end of the server market, and by Sun Microsystems Inc., IBM and Hewlett-Packard Co. on the high end.
Novell readies Linux version of directory
Linux users will soon find another big friend: Novell Inc. After nearly two years of talk, the Provo, Utah, company plans to pull the trigger on a broad Linux strategy at its BrainShare user conference in Salt Lake City next month.
